The Welsh Neuropsychiatry Service is an All-Wales specialist tertiary mental health service for individuals who have suffered a serious acquired brain injury. The service provides a comprehensive resource for the assessment, investigation, management and rehabilitation for patients suffering with neuropsychiatric, cognitive, emotional and behavioural problems as a result of that injury.
The service is based at Hafan y Coed, University Hospital Llandough. It has a 10 bedded Inpatient Unit on Ash Ward and operates a Community, Day and Outpatient Service from Ash Day Services. The new Inpatient Ward has a modern therapeutic and recovery-focused environment, with spacious en-suite rooms.
Patients requiring our service present with a range of physical, cognitive, emotional and /or behaviour problems, and we aim to optimise physical, cognitive, communication and occupational recovery.

Referral information
The service accepts referrals from across Wales from GPs, Neurologists, Rehabilitation Consultants, Mental Health Teams, Social Workers and Voluntary Organisations.
We accept referrals for adults over 18 years with an acquired brain injury as a result of trauma or a neurological event / illness but excluding stroke and degenerative disorders for whom other services exist. Referrals for those approaching 18 years are considered on a case by case basis.
