Due to Covid-19 and following advice from NHS Wales and the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, the Integrated Autism Service has made temporary changes to the service.
All groups and face-to-face appointments have been cancelled until further notice.
For further information regarding COVID-19 changes (please click here)
We are continuing to provide support to existing and new clients and are still accepting referrals.
To avoid face-face appointments, this support is currently being provided over telephone calls, emails, and video calls, depending on the person's preference. We are seeing a limited number of people face-to-face based on need.
We have been reviewing how to provide group support virtually and are considering several options. We hope to be able to offer our Post Diagnostic Group virtually soon for those on our waiting list.
We are still accepting referrals for autism diagnostic assessments, but please read the information on this site about diagnostic assessments and consider whether a referral is warranted. We are now completing face-to-face diagnostic assessments but regularly review the situation.
Please note that our current waiting list for diagnostic assessments had now increased to 18 months and this may continue to increase. We are very sorry about this lengthy wait; we recognise that it is disappointing and frustrating. Please not that the IAS may not be able to respond to queries about when you can expect to be seen. If you need any support while you are waiting, for example, support with anxiety or low mood, then please speak to your GP so that you can be referred to the appropriate service.
The Cardiff and Vale Integrated Autism Service (IAS) is a multi-agency specialist autism service with staff from health and local authority. The service has been set up following the provision of funding from The Welsh Government to develop Integrated Autism Services across Wales. The service links closely with other local organisations, and the Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) strategy Project Lead for Cardiff and Vale.
Our two overarching roles are: to liaise with mainstream services to increase their skills in working with people with autism; and to offer diagnostic and preventative treatment services to people with ASD and their carers whose needs would not otherwise be met by other services.
