The Primary Mental Health Support Services (PMHSS) is a dedicated service for adults aged 18 and over who are dealing with common mental health challenges such as depression and anxiety. We welcome referrals from General Practitioners (GPs) and other mental health teams and professionals.
Our service is specifically designed for individuals seeking to learn new strategies for self-help and management of their mental health issues. We provide assessments and an array of brief interventions to help each person devise a personal plan tailored to their mental health needs.
The PMHSS extends its services across Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan. However, please note that our service is not intended for individuals in need of emergency, urgent, or highly specialised care.
Our team comprises professionals from various mental health disciplines, committed to providing quality support. We aim to reach out to each referred individual within 28 days to offer an assessment, typically conducted over the phone. Following the assessment, individuals may receive information and advice, be directed to a variety of local services, be offered interventions from our team, or be referred to another NHS team, based on their specific needs.
At PMHSS, we provide a wide array of resources to aid those we assess in their journey towards mental health improvement. Our extensive range of courses and self-help materials are accessible via our website, Stepiau. Our offerings include, but are not limited to:
Self-Help Resources
Signposting to local services
Signposting to a range of Open Access Courses
Therapeutic Group Sessions
Brief Psychological Interventions
