Dieticians provide education to service users to empower them to make more positive food choices, to help improve their physical, nutritional and mental health status.
Who do we work with?
- Those who experience physical deterioration as a consequence of their mental health difficulties.
- People prescribed psychotropic medication who may be experiencing drugāinduced weight gain or are keen to minimise the risk of this occurring.
- Those suffering from general poor health due to mental health issues.
- Carers and healthcare professionals to help recognise the role of nutrition in physical and mental health.
- Specialist services like the Young Onset Dementia Team and Eating Disorder services as well as other Mental Health Services for Older People and Adult inpatient services across all sites.
Types of treatment
- Assessment and monitoring of individuals nutritional status on admission and throughout the inpatient stay to ensure a positive nutritional status - key in helping to minimise the risk of deterioration in physical, nutritional and mental health status as a consequence of malnutrition related illnesses.
- Supporting individuals with swallowing problems.
Outpatient service
We support the Adult Community Mental Health Teams by providing:
- home visits where indicated
- group healthy lifestyle programme
- goup dietary psycho education sessions for eating disorder clients run jointly with the Primary Mental Health Support Service (PMHSS)
- close liaison and joint working with local organisations.
