Cystic Fibrosis Related Diabetes

We have two diabetes clinics held on the morning of the 2nd and 3rd Tuesday of each month.

The incidence of Cystic fibrosis-related diabetes (CFRD) increases with age.  Recent data shows that over 30% of adults with CF have CFRD.

The CF specialist team work alongside three diabetes consultants;

 Professor Susan WONG

Lindsay George  Dr Lindsay GEORGE

 Dr Maitrayee CHOUDRY

Once yearly, the diabetes consultants will check for any complications of diabetes such as; raised areas of skin that have been over used when injecting insulin, loss of sensation in the feet.  They will also ask about eye screening.

The Adult CF service also has a full time CF diabetes clinical nurse specialist – Kelly WEBB
Kelly accompanies the diabetes consultants during clinical review and will follow up and act on anything identified as needing follow up, such as providing advice and reassurance, glucose monitoring or answering queries.
