If you are experiencing dental pain you should contact your dentist to get an appointment. All dentists should have capacity for emergencies if you are on their list.
If you are not registered with a dental practice or you are experiencing dental pain out of hours you can contact the emergency dental helpline via CAV 24/7 on 0300 10 20 247.
A member of the primary care team will triage you and if you require an appointment you will be booked into the emergency dental clinics at the Dental Hospital or St David’s Hospital.
The Examination and Emergency Department (E&E) is located on the Ground Floor.
The department no longer runs a "First come, first served" ticket system. If you require emergency dental attention but do not have your own dentist you must telephone the dental helpline on 0300 10 20 247 which is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. You will be asked a series of questions and will then be directed to the most appropriate place to receive care.
The Dental Hospital Emergency Department will only treat the following, upon referral from the dental helpline:
Patients are seen according to clinical priority and not the order of arrival.
It is not possible to see specialist dentists at this service. However, the clinical staff will do everything to make sure that your pain and symptoms are relieved.
The E&E clinic is based at the Dental Hospital and is open Monday to Friday (apart from Bank Holidays). Doors open at 7.30am each morning and clinic starts at 9am. Patients must be aware that waiting times may be several hours and treatment is temporary.
Unfortunately, we will not be able to see you in the Emergency Clinic if you walk in without contacting the dental helpline first, or if you are registered with a dentist.
