About the R&D Office

The R&D team provide friendly expert advice and support on all elements of research including registration, ethics, funding, governance, protocol design and lots more.

The department is responsible for the strategy, infrastructure, management and governance relating to research and development activity at Cardiff and Vale UHB, and is dedicated to supporting and furthering research and development within the health board.

The Human Tissue Act (HTA) Governance Officer can provide advice on project setup, undertake HTA inspections and monitor compliance with any recommendations made.

This team do not deal with projects sponsored by Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, which are supported by the Research Governance team.

The Senior Research and Development Officers in this team act as an early point of contact for proposed research studies. As well as assessing feasibility of a proposal, they can help identify what things need to be considered when preparing an R&D application, with the aim of facilitating a smooth journey through the approvals process.

Researchers who are non-NHS staff or NHS staff not directly employed by Cardiff and Vale UHB may require an Honorary Research Contract or Letter of Access.

These are applied for via the Research Passport Scheme. Contact the Registration and Permissions team for assistance in this area.
