Move More Eat Well

The Move More, Eat Well plan has been developed to inspire individuals and organisations to make positive changes, creating a social movement for improved health and wellbeing throughout Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan.

To tackle obesity and help people achieve a healthy weight, we recognise that action needs to be prioritised and embedded into everything we do, as a partnership, within organisations, by employers as well as by individuals.

Launched in July 2020, the Plan has brought together partnerships across Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan, include the Regional Partnership Board, Cardiff Public Services Board and the Vale of Glamorgan Public Services Board.  Together the partnerships pledged to achieve the vision:  Our vision is that people in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan will move more and eat well through working together across a range of identified priorities.

Action across the plan is being led by many different partners, and involves local communities.

The Move More, Eat Well plan aligns to Welsh Government’s Healthy Weight: Healthy Wales Strategy which sets out action against its four themes:

  • Health Environments
  • Healthy Settings
  • Healthy People
  • Leadership and Enabling Change

As part of the national approach to Leadership and Enabling Change and through Move More, Eat Well, the team are progressing the Whole System Approach to Healthy Weight in Wales across Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan.

Current project initiatives

Through our engagement process for Move More, Eat Well, we identified 10 priority areas for action which highlight how we can create the right conditions to enable people living and working in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan to be more physically active and to eat well.

Together with our partners, we have pledged for example; to improve and champion the food and physical activity offer in our educational and workplace settings, create a culture and environment that supports healthy travel, inform our workforce and population, and support our communities to be healthier.
