Most transplant patients when they become unwell will notify the paediatric nephrology centre. If patients present to their local DGH it is reasonable to carry out an initial assessment. The problem may be related to their transplant but it is important to recognise that transplant patients can still suffer the same illnesses as any other child.
Investigations should include:
Serum creatinine
MSU
Continued management should be in consultation with a paediatric nephrologist.
