Oral Medicine

About

The Oral Medicine department’s main focus is the non-surgical care for patients with conditions of the oral and maxillofacial region (e.g. mouth, jaws, face and neck) including long-term facial pain.

We offer a full service for oral mucosal conditions, including:

  • Red and white oral patches
  • Oral pigmentation
  • Mucosal lumps
  • Oral ulceration
  • Oral manifestations of systemic disease
  • Infections
  • Dry mouth
  • Oro-facial pain of non-dental origin

We work collaboratively with a range of medical and dental specialities such as maxillofacial surgeons, restorative dentists, ophthalmologists, rheumatologists, gastroenterologists, haematologists and dermatologists to devise treatment plans and support those with long term conditions related to orofacial issues.

We are supported by one Oral Pathologist who provides the diagnostic pathology service, one Dental Radiologist within the hospital, and we also have direct access to Oral Microbiology services.
