Cost of Treatment

You will be charged separately by your Consultant, Anaesthetist and the UHB, so please bear this in mind when estimating the total cost of your treatment.

The hospital charge is for the use of hospital facilities while the treatment is being carried out. The Private Patient team will be pleased to provide you with an estimate of the hospital charge, prior to the treatment date.  This estimate is only a guide price, as circumstances may vary during the procedure itself.

Self Funding

If you intend to pay for your treatment yourself, you may be required to pay the estimated cost prior to your treatment / procedure.  Should the final cost be less than the estimate, you will be reimbursed the difference.

If the final cost exceeds the estimate, you will receive an invoice for the balance which should be paid at the earliest convenience.

Private Medical Insurance

Prior to receiving your treatment you will need to provide an authorisation code from your insurer in addition to your policy details.

Should there be any difficulty in settling your account please notify us at the earliest opportunity as the responsibility for payment ultimately rests with the patient.

The University Health Board accepts the following methods of payment:

  • Cash
  • Cheque
  • Credit/Debit Card

What happens next?

Once you have agreed your treatment plan with your Consultant, you will be required either to  pay the estimated amount / guide price, or provide an authorisation code from your private healthcare insurer.

You will also be required to sign an 'Undertaking to Pay' form, which sets out your personal and insurance details, and constitutes your agreement to ensure the balance on your account is settled.
