Strength and Balance Exercises

Doing exercise to improve your strength and balance is crucial in helping you to reduce your risk of having a fall. There are some simple exercises which can be done in the comfort of your own home, following these guidelines.

Please note:

- Only do what you feel able to do safely
- I you haven't been used to exercising , or have a heart cndition, speak to your GP first to find out what type of exercise may be most suitable for you

- Try to find ways to build some movement into your daily activities

- If you try the exercises below, the standing exercises are best done using a kitchen worktop for support. Hold on as much as you need to

- The seated exercises should be done using a sturdy chair without arms , a high back and no wheels

- Wear suitable footwear with a grip on the bottom
