Why refer to the SEWGOC?

Gynaecological cancers are uncommon and therefore in order to maximise best care and expertise, patients are referred centrally. We have a specialist gynaecological cancer team consisting of :-

  • Surgeons
  • Oncologists
  • Anaesthetists
  • Nursing staff
  • Radiologists
  • Pathologist

Our facilities are dedicated to managing and treating patients with suspected or confirmed gynaecological cancer which means that you will be in an environment focussed on this aspect of gynaecology.

We run dedicated rapid access clinics where we recognise the problems faced by patients who have had a diagnosis of suspicious or confirmed cancer.

We have 7 dedicated theatre lists for treating gynaecological cancer with specialist consultant anaesthetists who are used to managing our patients.

We recognise that the current management of cancer has to involve many disciplines and we are committed to multidisciplinary team (MDT) working. The MDT is represented in a separate section but we have weekly meetings where all newly diagnosed gynaecological cancers are discussed and may have their radiology and/or pathology reviewed. This meeting is linked though videoconferencing with your local unit.
