What will happen at my appointment?

You will be offered a full sexual health screen including tests for chlamydia, gonorrhoea, syphilis and HIV. Other tests may be offered depending on your reason for attending and if you have any symptoms.

  • You will be asked by the receptionist whether you would prefer to be called by your name or clinic number
  • The clinician will call you into a clinic room by your name or clinic number. You will be asked to confirm your name and date of birth
  • Your reason for attending will be discussed and documented. The clinician will recommend appropriate investigations and explain if an examination procedure if they feel it is necessary

Following an examination you may be asked to take a seat in the waiting area to wait for provisional results.

Blood tests for HIV and syphilis are offered routinely at this clinic. If you do not want a blood test, please tell the clinician when you are seen.

If you have been at high risk of a Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI), you may be recommended to see a sexual health advisor on the day who will provide counselling and advice.

I have been told a sexual partner has an STI

If a partner has told you they have been diagnosed with a sexually transmitted infection it is important that you get a test and treatment if needed.

Please call us on 02921 835208 during our opening hours above. A clinician will call you back to arrange testing and treatment if appropriate.

If you have had sex with somebody in the last 72 hours and think there is a risk you may have been exposed to HIV, please click here for our information on accessing Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP).

Contacts of herpes or genital warts do not generally need treatment. We are unable to test for herpes or genital warts if you do not have symptoms.
