The Chronic Pain Service

We currently offer expert assessment and treatment options via our consultant led service through a patient centred holistic approach to the chronic pain condition using a biopsychosocial model of assessment.  Long-term plans are made in partnership with the patient, their carers and GP hoping to alleviate the impact of the condition on their day to day life, activities, mood, sleep and relationships.

A range of services are engaged including physiotherapy, psychiatry, nurse led clinics (Qutenza and Neuromodulation) and the Pain Management Programme.

Outpatient appointments include assessments of their condition, educating the patient and explaining treatment options which could include injections or further physical or psychological help.

The conditions we offer treatments for include:

  • Chronic pain secondary to arthritis.
  • Patients who are not fit for surgery or where surgery hasn’t worked including joint replacements.
  • Myofascial pain.
  • Facial pain or neuralgia – including trigeminal neuralgia.
  • Abdominal pelvic pain.
  • Spinal pain including low back pain, neck pain, thoracic pain, neuropathic pain, post surgical chronic pain, complex regional pain syndrome and cancer pain etc.
