Skullbase

The skull base team in Cardiff are based at the University Hospital of Wales.  We are a multidisciplinary group of experts who specialise in treating complex disorders of the skull base.  These include:

  • Vestibular schwannomas (or acoustic neuroma)
  • Schwannomas of other cranial nerves
  • Meningiomas
  • Pituitary adenoma
  • Craniopharyngioma
  • Glomus tumours
  • Chordoma and chondrosarcoma
  • Epidermoid and dermoid cysts
  • Malignant tumours of the nose, sinuses and face affecting the skull base

We offer a comprehensive service including a dedicated skull base clinic, specialised NF2 clinics in collaboration with the Manchester NF2 service and vestibular and facial rehabilitation where needed.

We provide open skull base procedures, complex craniofacial surgery with personalised custom reconstruction and minimally invasive endoscopic skull base surgery.

Stereotactic radiosurgery and stereotactic radiotherapy are provided directly by the team using a dedicated state of the art Truebeam STx based at Velindre Cancer Centre.

We discuss individual cases at a fortnightly Skull Base MDT meeting.  To make a referral to the centre please contact one of the team members directly or contact our skull base coordinator:
