Being Dementia-Friendly

Creating a dementia friendly environment is very important in the care of people with dementia and can aid orientation and decrease confusion.

The following key features need to be considered when creating new or adapting older environments:

  • using colour and contrast
  • utilising light optimally
  • creating useful fixtures and fittings
  • signage.

For more information on these elements and others, see the University of Stirling guidance.

For a useful and interactive toolkit, see the University of Stirling virtual hospital.

(Please note that you may not be able to access the virtual hospital links from Health Board PCs, and may need to access them from your home PC.)
