Registering with a GP Practice

Anyone can register with a GP practice in Wales.

You do not need a fixed address or ID to register with a GP.

In Wales, everyone who is registered with a GP can get free prescriptions.

📝 What Form Do I Need?

  • You only need to fill out one form: the GMS1 form
  • You can get this form at any GP surgery.

🌍 Need an Interpreter?

  • If you don’t speak English well, you can ask for an interpreter.
  • This is free.
  • The GP surgery must provide this service.

🚫 Can a GP Say No?

A GP can only refuse to register you if:

  • Their list is full, or
  • You live outside their area

They must not refuse you because of:

  • Your race, gender, age, religion, disability, appearance, sexuality, or health condition

If you think you were refused for one of these reasons, it may be discrimination.
