Why Choose Us?

We have been for fortunate to receive recognition in the following awards:

Rewards and benefits

Once you join our apprenticeship programme you will be able to take advantage of these rewards and benefits:

  • Fully funded learning

As part of your employment, you will be supported to complete a fully funded nationally recognised qualification which best matches the role that you have been placed in.

You will be fully supported with an assessor provided by the training organisation and by a supportive department who will give you the work to allow you to evidence your learning.

  • Competitive wage

The Health Board offers a competitive apprenticeship wage. As an organisation we want to ensure that you are as close as possible to the national minimum wage during your training.

  • Annual leave and bank holidays

You will be entitled to 28 annual leave days each year, prorated depending on your hours of work. This leave will be requested via our Electronic Staff Record.

You will also be entitled to the 8 bank holidays each year (depending on how they fall). Depending on your area of work you may be required to work these, in which case, you can take these hours at another time.

  • Buddy / mentor support

The first few days of new employment can be daunting. To ease this your line manager will introduce you to your buddy / mentor on the first day.

Your buddy / mentor will ensure you are able to settle in as soon as you start, give you helpful tips and advice to navigate the department.

  • Wellbeing and support

As well as wanting Cardiff and Vale University Health Board to be a ‘great place to work and learn’, it is important that our colleagues are supported in their own health and wellbeing. The People Health and Wellbeing Service will provide you with the information you need to improve your emotional and physical wellbeing, helping you to lead a healthy lifestyle.

If you have any concerns, please speak to your department manager or the Apprenticeship and Widening Access Co-ordinator.
