Lung ventilation and perfusion scan (VQ scan)

This is a test to examine the air and blood supply to your lungs and to diagnose any blood clots in this blood supply.

Test Preparation

Please inform us if you are pregnant or if you think you are pregnant.

No preparation is needed.

Exam Procedure

The test requires you to breathe in a small amount of a special gas containing radioactive tracer and an injection through the vein. This injection is harmless with no side effects.

Images are obtained usually in a sitting position. It takes about 30 minutes.
