Test Preparation

Please inform us if you are pregnant or if you think you are pregnant.

There is no preparation other than to drink plenty following the scan to ensure the tracer is excreted from the body quickly. The test consists of an injection through a vein.

Different types of tests

Radionuclide Cystography

A test used to detect the flow of urine from the bladder back into the kidney.  Multiple images are taken as you pass urine (voids).

Diuretic (MAG3) Renography

A test used to test the drainage function of the kidneys.  Radioactive tracer and medication to encourage voiding are injected into a vein. Multiple images are then obtained.

DMSA Scan

A test used to determine scarring of renal tissue. The tracer is injected into a vein.. Four hours after the injection, multiple pictures are taken.
