Appointments & Clinics

Consultations can take place via telephone, video consultations and face to face.

If your appointment is face to face please check the location of the appointment as we see patients in various locations throughout Cardiff and Vale and Cwm Taf.

For telephone and video clinics you will receive a letter with an approximate appointment time, but it may be that the doctor/healthcare professional contacts you within an hour or so before or after the time due.

Attending your appointment by video.

New referrals

Each new referral we receive will be reviewed by a doctor. They will assess how soon you need to be seen, and whether any other tests need to be arranged beforehand.

You may be contacted by phone to discuss your referral.

You will remain on the waiting list until you are offered an appointment unless you decline to attend.

Infusions (DMT)

Welcome to the Neurology Day Unit (NDU). We are a team of Neurology Doctors, Nurses, Healthcare Support workers and administration team who work together to ensure the smooth running of the NDU. The NDU provides care to people with a wide variety of Neurological conditions but a large number of our service users are people with MS. Where possible there is also an MS nurse providing care in addition to a Neurology nurse but all the team have an extensive knowledge and experience of both Neuroscience and MS.

The Neurology Day Unit is located in the Out-Patient Department in the UHW in Suite 2.

Suite 2 also has clinic rooms used in addition to the Neurology Out-patient Department on Suite 16. It can be found by turning left from the main corridor towards the Out-Patient Clinics and is the 2nd clinic on the left.

The Neurology Day Unit is a 6-bedded Unit with 1 cubicle for investigations such as Lumber Punctures. Each Room has 2 chairs where treatments are administered. We administer intravenous and sub-cutaneous treatments such as Natalizumab, Ocrelizumab, Alemtuzumab and Rituximab in addition to treatments administered for other neurological conditions and assist the Doctors in investigations as needed. Depending on the treatment you may be here for between 20 minutes to 7 hours. Our staff will ensure that you are monitored and cared for during this time. We are able to provide tea, coffee and sandwiches but we do advise that if you require any additional snacks or drinks that you bring your own.

If you have any questions about your appointment or treatment or unable to attend, please contact us on 02920743280 between 08.00 and 16.00.

We will use infection control measures in the day unit to minimise the risk of infection.  You must NOT attend if you are feeling unwell or someone in your household is unwell. If this is the case, please call 02920 743280.
