Paul Rees MBE, CEO and Registrar of the Nursing and Midwifery Council, recently paid Cardiff and Vale Health Inclusion Service (CAVHIS) a visit at Cardiff Royal Infirmary, to find out more about how they are supporting our community’s most vulnerable people.
Paul and his colleague Sharon Clement-Thomas heard from the team about how they are working hard to address extreme health and social inequalities, supporting vulnerable and marginalised groups.
CAVHIS supports individuals experiencing some of the poorest health outcomes and those who find it difficult accessing healthcare. From refugees and asylum seekers to homeless people and sex workers, the service offers personalised and equitable care to improve health outcomes and empower individuals to be the healthiest they can be.
Following the Nursing and Midwifery Council’s visit to Cardiff Royal Infirmary, Paul commented: "The nurses who work in the service are passionate, committed and dedicated and need a varied skill set to be effective in the role. "
“It is such a unique and innovative service, both in terms of the people it serves, the way it delivers it’s services and the multi-disciplinary approach.”
Josie Collins, Senior Nurse at Cardiff and Vale Health Inclusion Service, also added: “I’m incredibly proud of the Cardiff and Vale Health Inclusion Service nurses and wider team. Their dedication, compassion, and specialist skills shine through in their work with some of the most vulnerable and marginalised individuals in our community.”
“The recent visit from the Nursing and Midwifery Council highlighted the impact and value of our service, and it was wonderful to see the team’s commitment recognised at a national level. It’s a privilege to lead such an inspiring group of professionals.”
