NHS Wales dental charges from 1st April 2024

NHS Wales dental charges will increase on 1st April 2024. If you pay for NHS dental treatment, you will pay one of the following standard charges which are set by Welsh Government:

Band 1 — £20

This includes an examination, diagnosis, preventive care and planning for further treatment.

Band 2 — £60

This includes all necessary treatment covered by the £20.00 charge PLUS additional treatment such as fillings, root canal treatment or extractions.

Band 3 — £260

This charge includes all necessary treatment covered by the £20.00 and £60.00 charges PLUS crowns, dentures and bridges.

If you require treatment under Band 1, Band 2 or Band 3, you pay one charge even if you visit more than once to complete a course of treatment.

Urgent Care — £30

This will include an assessment, diagnosis and preventive care. If necessary, it will include X-rays and any treatment necessary to prevent significant deterioration of the presenting condition or to address severe pain.

If you are exempt from NHS dental charges, you will receive free treatment and care. You can use the NHS online checker to see if you are entitled to help.

There is no charge for an NHS prescription in Wales.
