Peer support is a form of relationship centred care that intentionally utilises the expertise of people with lived experience of mental health challenges. Peer support workers share experience to normalise challenges, show common humanity, help someone move forward, build connection and offer hope. “A literature review of over 1,000 research studies found Peer Support can help people feel more knowledgeable, confident and happy, and less isolated and alone.” Peer Support Paper HEIW 2022
The MHCB are taking peer support forward with a Peer Lead and a Deputy Peer Lead position to embed peer support workers across the MHCB using the intentional peer support model. These roles focus on developing governance and providing peer supervision to the peer support workers in-post across our mental health services.
Cardiff and Vale Recovery and Wellbeing College also supports and delivers the development and training of a Peer support workforce for Wales.
