Health and Wellbeing Advisory Group

Cardiff and Vale UHB’s mission is “Caring for People, Keeping People Well”.  This applies to all of our employees as well as the patients we look after.

The UHB has over 14,000 staff who work hard to deliver services to our population.  We aim to help keep our employees well by providing support and information that can help look after their health.

Cardiff & Vale UHB is committed to being an employer of choice and recognises that an important aspect of achieving this is the promotion and maintenance of the health and wellbeing of all staff. Wellbeing at work refers to both psychological and physical health.

There are lots of resources suitable for managers and employees to maintain their health and wellbeing including the Employee Assistance Programme, Mental Health and Wellbeing Services, Physical Wellbeing (exercise and clubs and schemes available), smoking cessation assistance, staff dietetic service, and support for Alcohol Drug and Substance Misuse.

Health and Wellbeing at Work involves a commitment by the organisation to improve the health of the workforce.  To support this,  we have an active Health and Wellbeing Advisory Group (HWAG) which meets monthly.  The HWAG comprises a supportive group of key people from across the UHB who play a role in encouraging, enabling and endorsing a culture of Health and Wellbeing for staff.

The key people within HWAG work across the UHB in areas ranging from travel, health and safety, physiotherapy, dietetics, occupational health, employee wellbeing, and Public Health, to name but a few.  Staff who lead initiatives in their teams are also invited along to HWAG because there’s always lots to learn from them.  Collectively the direction is set for improving wellbeing and monitoring the progress that’s being made.
