Registering with a GP Practice

Anyone in Wales can register with a GP. It is not necessary to have a fixed address or identification to register and anyone who is registered with a GP can get free prescriptions.

The only form that needs to be completed in order to register is a GMS1 form which are available at any practice.

Anyone who needs an interpreter has the right to request one at no cost to themselves. The GP practice has a duty to provide a translator and telephone translation services are available in all GP practices.

Unless the GP practice has closed their list or you live outside the practice boundary area, you cannot be refused registration.

If a surgery wants to refuse to register you, it must have good reasons for doing so. These must not have anything to do with race, gender, social class, age, religion, sexual orientation, appearance, disability or medical condition.
