The information in this section is for patients who have been diagnosed as sustaining a specific orthopaedic injury and have then been referred to this Virtual Fracture Clinic. It is important that you seek advice from elsewhere if this is not the case.
Following a visit to the Emergency Department with an orthopaedic injury, your referral and x-rays will be reviewed by an orthopaedic consultant. This allows appropriate follow up to be organised if indicated.
Many orthopaedic injuries require no further treatment. In this case, the Virtual Fracture Clinic will provide information on what you need to do to help your recovery without the need to attend the orthopaedic trauma clinic in person. This may be with a phone call or a letter to your address. You may also be referred to physiotherapy.
If you need follow up, depending on your injury, you will receive a phone call, a text message or a letter outlining the next steps. This will vary from person to person. You should then attend your follow up as organised. If you cannot attend, please cancel or rearrange the appointment.
