Diagnosis and Referring into the NET Service

NETs can be diagnosed in many ways, but most are initially found by Gastroenterologists or Surgeons in hospitals after a referral from GPs. Sometimes, patients are diagnosed during an emergency admission, or it is picked up incidentally on a scan or endoscopy (without causing symptoms).

Diagnosis is usually confirmed after a biopsy or surgical procedure. Patients with confirmed or suspected NETs are referred to the NET service by a local health board’s clinical team to the NET MDT, completing an online proforma.

Read more information on the NHS Wales Health Collaborative website.

Patients from North Wales should be referred to the NET centre in Liverpool.
