Mental Health Support

Psychological support is available to people living with a NET diagnosis depending on where you live.

Some health boards offer a specialist clinical psychology service which provides psychological assessment, and intervention for people with a diagnosis of cancer. They may be useful if you are struggling to cope with your diagnosis or from issues arising because of your NET.  Appointments can be face-to-face, or by phone/video. Please speak to your CNS for more information.

Unfortunately, not all health boards are able to offer this service but there may be alternative services to help you:

  • Your GP can refer you to a local primary care counselling service (if available).
  • The Cardiff and Swansea ‘Maggie’s’ Centres provide emotional and psychological support in several ways which include group activities, cancer support workers and patient support groups.  A clinical psychologist also works in ‘Maggie’s’ and offers group interventions.  (Please note that this is a self-referral service, they do not take referrals from your clinical team).

Maggies Centre Cardiff, can be contacted on 029 2240 8024

  • The ‘Keeping Me Well’ website https://keepingmewell.com/  written by psychologists working in Cancer Care in the Cardiff and Vale is open to all and has a section on psychological and emotional needs. It offers a range of self-help information which is intended to support those undergoing cancer treatment and living with the impact of cancer after treatment.
