Clinical Engineering provides a full range of medical equipment management services, and ensures that whenever a medical device is used it is suitable for the intended purpose and maintained in a safe and reliable condition.
Based at Field Way, a whole life cycle medical equipment service is provided to Cardiff and Vale UHB, including advice on technical suitability and safety of new equipment, commissioning of new equipment, repair, maintenance and safety checking of equipment, and technical support for upgrades or safety modifications.
Based at Field Way, DTS provide equipment management for haemo-dialysis, continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) and continuous cycling peritoneal dialysis (CCPD), supporting patients in the hospital, satellite units and home environment.
Based at the University Hospital of Wales, Heath Park, MES provide equipment management mainly for mechanical related medical equipment throughout Cardiff and Vale UHB, with regular planned maintenance and repairs undertaken.
A range of training programmes are provided for clinical staff on the safe use of Infusion pumps. Workshops are carried out at Field Way, but training can also take place at other Cardiff and Vale UHB sites.
The Medical Equipment Loan Service, based within the University Hospital of Wales, Heath Park, and Llandough Hospital, provides a service for a range of commonly used medical equipment, primarily infusion devices and nebulisers.
The Clinical Engineering Department operates a quality management system accredited to BS EN ISO 9001:2015, Registration number FS13077.
