What is a Bone Density (DXA) Measurement?

A Bone Density (DXA) Measurement is an investigation which uses low energy X-rays to determine how much ‘bone mineral’ is in the area being measured. The lower your bone density is, the greater the risk of having a fracture.

Because it uses low energy x-rays, the radiation dose you will receive from the investigation is very low and is approximately equivalent to 1/10th of a chest x-ray dose.
