Cardiff and Vale University Health Board UHB was established in October 2009, and is the largest Health Board in Wales.

In February 2014 the Postgraduate & Undergraduate Departments merged, forming the Department of Medical and Dental Education. The UHB has two Medical and Dental Education Centres based at University Hospital of Wales (UHW) and University Hospital Llandough (UHL).

The two centres provide the infrastructure and staff to facilitate the Education, Training and Continuing Development of Postgraduate Professionals in Hospital Medicine, General Practice and Dentistry and ensuring a high standard of clinical placement to the medical students and offer a support service to the clinicians enabling them to deliver teaching. It involves working very closely with Cardiff University, School of Medicine and Health Education Improvement Wales (HEIW).

Each centre is managed by a dedicated team who ensure a high standard of Medical Education is provided across the UHB.
