CRRU Home Oxygen Service

Welcome to the Home Oxygen Assessment Service

Who are we?

The Home Oxygen Assessment Service has been set up to monitor and review people using oxygen at home. We are a multidisciplinary Respiratory team based at the University Hospital Llandough.

Why is this important?

Oxygen is a drug – it is therefore important that you are monitored to ensure that your oxygen prescription is appropriate and continues to meet your needs.

If oxygen is new to you – this is a temporary prescription until you are assessed in Oxygen Clinic.

You should receive a clinic appointment approximately 4 - 6 weeks after discharge from hospital.

Oxygen Safety:

  • Be sure to use your oxygen as prescribed, never change the flow rate as this could be harmful.
  • Be careful of oxygen tubing as it could be a trip hazard.}
  • Avoid any kind of naked flames such as candles, open fires, gas cooker and matches, keep at least 3 metres from open fires and 1.5 meters from closed fires.
  • Avoid use of products on your skin that are oil or Petroleum jelly based – these products can react with oxygen and irritate the skin.
  • Your home oxygen equipment is funded by Cardiff and Vale UHB as long as the Oxygen Service assess that you clinically need it.

If you have any equipment issues please contact Baywater Healthcare - the oxygen supplier: 0800 373 580.

Please feel free to call the Oxygen Assessment Service for advice on 029 2182 5092.
