Child and Adolescent Learning Disability Service

CALDS are multi-disciplinary team who work with families of children (aged 5 –17 years) who have a Learning Disability. We work across settings (home and school) and liaise with other professionals in health, social care, and education involved in the care and support of the child or young person. We also have links and can signpost to third-sector support in the local area.

Our multi-disciplinary team includes Learning Disability nurses, Clinical Psychologists, PBS Practitioner, Psychiatrist, Occupational Therapist and Graduate Mental Health Workers. Together we offer a range of services including assessment and intervention, training, consultation, and advice to other agencies.

Referring to CALDS

A child or young person may be referred to our service for additional support in areas such as emotional well-being, behaviours of concern, regulation, toileting, sleep, occupations and accessing healthcare.

We support families of children and young people who have a Learning Disability, are aged 5-17, who have already tried generic approaches, who require a specialist Learning Disability approach and have challenges that are present across settings.

CALDS accepts referrals from Community Health Professionals (such as Paediatricians), Social Workers and the Senior Leadership teams in Special Schools.
