"Surgeon saved my son's life"

20th April 2026

A family have praised a consultant surgeon for the life-saving surgery he performed, and ongoing care given to their teenage son, Jack.

Jack was in a bad way, struck down with a burst appendix – but further complications arose, and it quickly became clear that his life was at stake if urgent action wasn’t taken.

Jack’s mother, Lisa, detailed the turn of events during the harrowing journey:

“In September 2024, my son was transferred from our local hospital after surgery to remove a burst appendix, Enny was the consultant who saved my son’s life.”

Jack was originally staying at Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend. He was very unwell and in need of surgical intervention, as his condition rapidly deteriorated. It was soon after that he became seriously ill with sepsis –and subsequently admitted to the intensive care unit at Noah’s Ark Children's Hospital for Wales in Cardiff.

During his stay there, he was put into an induced coma and a life-support system to fight off the deadly infection.

Lisa described the state of her son’s complications:

“Enny conducted a second surgery to remove the remainder of the appendix but came across an abdomen full of infection, faeces, toxins, and pus.”

After the second surgery, things began to turn around for Jack, but nonetheless, it was slow road to recovery.

“His recovery was long; he was back on Owl Ward until October 15th but was re-admitted to hospital on 23rd with pulmonary embolisms.”

He then stayed in until November 11th, 2024, and upon release, treated at home by the wound team.

She then accounted how Enny conducted care towards Jack, which massively impacted the family’s experience.

“Mr Folaranmi came and checked on us daily and was such a calm in what was the most terrifying time of our lives. My son would not be here today if he hadn’t acted when he did, and the incredible work he did in surgery. There’s so much more I can say about him, and he deserved the recognition of being a superhero.”

Enny had previously appeared in episode 3 of the BBC Saving Lives television series, highlighting his work in Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital for Wales in Cardiff.
