Dr Lliwen Jones Nominated as Secretary for the Society of Acute Medicine

Lliwen Jones is a Consultant working at the University Hospital of Wales in Acute Medicine and has recently been appointed as Secretary for the Society for Acute Medicine. 

As a medical doctor, Lliwen qualified from Cardiff University in 2012, and has completed all of her postgraduate training in Wales. Initially doing core medical training after foundation training, she discovered a passion for Acute Medicine in which she undertook her higher specialty training. Since completing her training three years ago, she has been working in the University Hospital of Wales as a Consultant in Acute Medicine.

Lliwen went on to describe her motive: "I thought this was a good opportunity to be involved with Acute Medicine on a UK-wide basis. I want to work with people who are able to influence important factors that ultimately affect our patients on a daily basis."

The society for Acute Medicine is the national representative body for Acute Medicine in the UK. The Secretary role is a core part of the council and Lliwen will be taking up her position in the SAM Conference in Glasgow in October following her successful election.

She described the process, tying in her background experience: 

"We will work together to influence decisions about Acute Medicine within the UK. I have enjoyed being in the same role for the Welsh Acute Physicians' Society for the last two years which has given me valuable experience locally in Wales. Having worked closely with the Society for Acute Medicine on other projects including their recent conference in Cardiff, I was inspired to apply so that I could be more involved with the society on a regular basis."
