A prescribing advisor is employed by the Health Board and has a strategic role to focus on maximising benefit and minimising risk associated with medicines as well as making the best use of resources allocated for medicines, implementing national health priorities at a local level and designing treatment pathways.
They may provide support to practices and primary care clusters through prescribing data and analysis and facilitation of service development relating to medicines management across all professions, and may work in GP practices to the Health Board’s priorities.
A cluster pharmacist is employed by the Health Board on behalf of the cluster, works with a group of practices to achieve primary care cluster priorities. May also provide cluster support in relation to prescribing trends and analysis depending on cluster priorities.
Works as part of the GP practice team in line with the practices’ priorities. They can release clinical capacity and give improved direction and guidance on prudent evidence based medicine.
Employed by and as part of an community pharmacy independent contractor business. They provide a range of pharmaceutical and healthcare services in a local community pharmacy and will provide services as part of the NHS contractual requirements within the NHS Community Pharmacy Contractual Framework.
Pharmacy Technicians are pharmacy professionals who play an integral part in helping patients to make the most of their medicines.
They undertake the technical aspects of medicines management e.g. checking inhaler technique, synchronising medicines, reviewing repeat prescribing and are often involved with prescribing audits within GP Practices.
These roles are developing rapidly and in some areas pharmacy technicians are taking on prescribing data analysis roles and treatment reviews within a set protocol.
In order to become a pharmacy technician you'll need to complete an accredited course before registering with the regulator, the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
Employed by the Health Board. Encourage high quality, cost effective prescribing by providing prescribing support and training to GP practices and their staff.
Employed by the Health Board, works as part of the multi professional integrated team the post holder will be responsible for providing pharmaceutical advice and support to the Community Resource Team/Service.
Employed by the Health Board. Works as part of the community pharmacy contractual team to ensure the implementation, development and delivery of service strategies for high quality healthcare for the local population.
