Education, Culture & Organisational Development

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is an organisation that promotes being a Great Place to Work and Learn.

Induction and Statutory & Mandatory Training

As a new employee you will receive a full induction programme incorporating all 13 core skills. These training modules can be completed online on ESR and there is an IT suite within the ECOD Department available for this.

The Education, Culture & Organisational Development (ECOD) Department also delivers a tutor led half-day Corporate Induction Programme suitable for all new employees joining the CVUHB. Invitation letters will be to your home address and line managers are required to release staff to attend this event.

Values Based Appraisal

All staff must have (as a minimum) an annual Values Based Appraisal (VBA) meeting with their line manager.

Values Based Appraisal is for everyone and is a focussed conversation around development and recordable outcomes for staff.  Your appraisal should cover the development you need, the value you bring, and the position(s) that best suits your skill now and into the future.

An outcome of the VBA meeting should be, agreed work objectives or performance expectations which relate to the UHB's strategic objectives. The VBA meeting is also linked to the pay progression as set out in the NHS Wales Pay Progression Policy. You can find out more on the VBA and Pay Progression Toolkit page.

The ECOD team play an important role in co-ordinating the VBA process and providing training to ensure that VBAs are meaningful and assist you with in meeting your personal and professional objectives, and your career pathway.

Training Opportunities

Within ECOD there is a full prospectus of opportunities for you, ranging from clinical skills, leadership, service improvement methodology, and customer care to state only a few. Further information about these services can be found on the Your Development internet pages.   There is also information available there about team based working, library services and apprenticeships

The ECOD Department is based in the Cochrane Building.
