What should I do if I need urgent or emergency health care advice or treatment?

If your condition is urgent but not life-threatening, call 111.

The Out of Hours Service is also available through 111 if you need urgent medical care out of hours and cannot wait until your GP practice re-opens.

The Emergency Unit at the University Hospital of Wales is open 24 hours a day, every day, and is there to assess and treat those most in need of urgent care.

  • You should only attend the Emergency Unit if you:
  • have experienced a serious injury or accident
  • are showing symptoms of a medical emergency (such as a stroke or a heart attack)
  • are having difficulty breathing
  • are in a state of crisis or delirium

If your condition is urgent, but not life-threatening, please call 111 before attending the Emergency Unit.

If you need urgent mental health support, you can call 111 and press option 2.
