Which diseases does the MMRV vaccine protect against?

MMRv protects against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox) - four highly contagious viral infections.

  • Measles can cause high fever, rash, pneumonia, and brain inflammation.

  • Mumps can lead to painful swelling of glands, hearing loss, and infertility.

  • Rubella (German measles) can cause serious birth defects if caught during pregnancy.

  • Varicella can lead to bacterial infections of the skin, lung problems (such as pneumonia), fits (seizures), swelling in the brain (encephalitis), or stroke in children.

Vaccination is the safest and most effective way to prevent all four.
