Following a review into the uptake of Healthy Start Vouchers locally, it was clear that awareness of the scheme was low with eligible families and many of the frontline staff who support them.
Therefore, a partnership between Cardiff and Vale Public Health Team, Cardiff Council’s Money Advice Service and Cardiff and Vale UHB Dietetic Team and Food Cardiff was established to raise awareness of Healthy Start and the other schemes that support families on a low income to access a healthier diet, such as Free School Meals and Food and Fun.
An awareness package was developed to provide frontline staff with an overview of the various food schemes, who is eligible and how to signpost families.
This was initially delivered as a workshop however, to reach a wider audience, is now available as an online interactive package. This has also been adapted to represent Wales-wide information for partners in other areas who wish to access the information.
In Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan we have supplemented this package with further detail on some of the local food projects that support families on a low income.
