I am under 18 years old

If you are under 18, we provide a dedicated drop-in clinic that provides contraception, STI testing and treatment and sexual health advice. You don't need to call us before attending.

  • Tuesdays 2pm – 5pm, ground floor Department of Sexual Health in Cardiff Royal Infirmary, Newport Road, Cardiff, CF24 0SZ.
  • Thursdays 2pm – 5pm, Barry Hospital, Colcot Road, Barry, CF62 7AL (Please note we are no longer in Broad Street Clinic).

Alternatively, you can call us on 02921 835208 to book an appointment if you can’t attend the drop-in.  We welcome phone calls in Welsh and in English.

Confidentiality

As a service, we understand the importance of keeping your information secure and confidential. The only people who can see your sexual health record are staff who work in the Department of Sexual Health in Cardiff and Vale University Health Board.

We provide a confidential service to everyone—regardless of age—attending our clinics. You don’t need adult permission to attend one of our clinics.

A member of our admin team will ask you for your name, address, date of birth and telephone number, which will be transferred to your unique sexual health record. Your sexual health record is not linked to any other health record and your GP will not know you have attended the clinic or be able to see your sexual health medical records.

If you’re aged 13 – 17 you have the same rights to confidentiality as an adult. This means that we will not routinely pass any of the information you tell us (including parents, teachers or GP) without your permission. It can sometimes be useful to share this information with your GP or parents so we may encourage you to do so.

However, there may be certain situations where we feel that we need to pass on the information you tell us to another professional. This would only be if we had serious concerns about your safety or welfare. In usual circumstances, we would aim to discuss this with you before passing this on.

If you would like to discuss how your information is kept and shared in our clinic, please mention this to the person who is seeing you.
