Physiotherapists

Who we are

Rhian O’Halloran is the Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist in the Team. She trained at The Royal London Hospital a long time ago where she gained her BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy. She continued to work in London where her interest in Neurological Physiotherapy started, then moved back to Wales and began working in the Cardiff MS Team in 2008, so now has 30 years of neurological experience!  She is a member of TiMS, a national group of therapists supported by the MS trust aiming to improve MS services in the UK by promoting and developing the therapist's role in supporting people with MS.

We also have a Band 6 Rotational Neurological Physiotherapist working alongside The Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist within the team. They work across a wide variety of physiotherapy clinical areas before specialising in neurology so have lots of experience as a Physiotherapist and in Neurology.

What do we do?

We can advise, treat or refer you regarding issues such as walking, balance and exercise. We also help manage a number of other MS symptoms such as spasticity, spasms and weakness.

What to expect?

We may meet you in a clinic, or call you to discuss your questions, needs and expectations. Once we know what the issue is we can offer advice, ideas, suggestions and information over the phone, via e-mail or offer you an appointment or home visit.

We may also refer you to other neurological physiotherapists local to you for a 1:1 assessment and treatment or to join our exercise groups and classes.

We can order you equipment to trial such as foot splints to prevent tripping when walking, or sticks, crutches and zimmer frames to improve your walking or prevent falls. We work closely with other specialists and can refer you on if you need more bespoke equipment.

We work closely with the rest of the team so you can be supported holistically. This may involve suggesting medications, discussing your issues with other members of the MDT or referring you to more specialised clinics.
