Innovation, Research, and Development

The Mental Health Clinical Board is committed to working with a range of partners to improve the mental health, care, treatment and recovery of all our patients within generic mental health services and specialist areas.

We work closely with Cardiff University's School of Healthcare Sciences in four key areas of research:

  • Optimising well-being and the management of long-term conditions
  • Optimising service delivery and organisation
  • Optimising health through activity, lifestyles and technology

CRIS and Participate

Alongside colleagues at Cardiff University, we have implemented the Clinical Record Interactive Search (CRIS) system that securely retrieves and de-identifies data in the health board’s PARIS system, which can be used for audit, service evaluation and research purposes.

We have also launched our Participate approach to increasing awareness about research that we are conducting, giving service users greater opportunity to get involved.

National Centre for Mental Health (NCMH)

The NCMH is working with the Mental Health, Cardiff and Vale UHB to better understand the causes of mental health conditions and is actively recruiting participants to take part in research.

Anybody can help, and it usually takes less than an hour. It involves:

  • a brief meeting with one of our researchers, either at your home or in a local clinic
  • completing and returning some questionnaires
  • providing a small blood sample.
