Information for Families

Requests for Support

If you are a parent or a carer of a child/ young person with an intellectual disability and/or ASD, and you would like support around your child’s behaviour or emotional wellbeing then you may be able to access our team. However, sometimes, we may feel that there is a better service to meet your needs so will suggest this instead.

We accept referrals from Community Child Health professionals (eg. Paediatrician, Speech & Language Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Special Needs Health Visitor), Social Workers in the Child Health & Disability Teams or Senior Leadership Staff in a designated Special School.

Adaptations to Service during Covid-19 Isolation

We are continuing to operate as normal, however there is some disruption to meeting face-to-face, holding meetings and carrying out observations.  In most cases, we will be contacting you by telephone or offering a video call instead of face-to-face meetings.

Additional Support during COVID-19 Isolation

The current restriction period is a particularly difficult time for children and families, whilst schools and services impose stricter guidance around managing the spread of infection.  As we return to a 'new normal' we appreciate having to adapt to new ways of working with schools, professionals and families.  During times of uncertainty and threat with frequent changes in government and health rules and guidance, it is very normal to feel emotions like worry, fear, confusion and sadness. However, at times these emotions can feel overwhelming for everyone.

Please, take a look at our COVID Resource Pack (created for lockdown periods) with lots of ideas of ways of maintaining some structure and routine, regulation activities, and most importantly, looking after yourselves.

Managing Crises

We are not a crisis service and are not able to offer out-of-hours support.  Therefore, if your need is more urgent or you feel your child is in immediate risk of harm, then please contact your GP or the appropriate crisis service.
