Huggard are a charity and Wales’s leading centre for people who are sleeping rough on the streets of Cardiff. Since December, 1988, they have been providing practical help to people who are homeless and vulnerable.
Their Critical Intervention Hub in Hansen Street is open 24/7 and anyone is eligible to pop in for a hot drink and meal, as well as a shower or to do their laundry, even a change of clothing.
The Critical Intervention Hub comprises of our Critical Intervention Centre, which is open during the day, our hostel and emergency accommodation.
They aim to give everyone staying in our Hostel the dignity and privacy they deserve. This is why they have 18 single rooms, and 2 for couples, all with en-suite facilities.
They also manage 14-shared houses across the city where 53 people, who have been homeless, are supported to live on a more permanent basis.
While they are a place of sanctuary, they’re aim is to help people who are sleeping rough to rebuild their lives and to leave the streets for good. The Critical Intervention Hub isn't the place where people "end up", it is the place where their journey begins.
Everyone using their Hostel, or living in one of their houses, is allocated a Support Worker, who works with them to develop their “Individual Support Plan”.
Their dedicated team work closely with our homeless nurses and GP to support people who are sleeping rough get the appropriate medical assistance.
