🏥 What is CAVHIS?

CAVHIS stands for Cardiff and Vale Health Inclusion Service. It started in 2021 at Cardiff Royal Infirmary. CAVHIS helps people who:

  • Do not have a GP
  • Find it hard to use usual health services

 

👥 Who does CAVHIS help?

CAVHIS supports people:

  • Who have moved to the UK from other countries seeking refuge or asylum
  • Who are homeless
  • Who have just come out of prison and meet certain eligibility criteria.
  • Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities on unauthorised encampment sites.
  • People affected by sex work.

These groups often face:

  • Poverty
  • Violence
  • Trauma
  • Poor health
  • Trouble getting healthcare
 

❤️ What does CAVHIS do?

CAVHIS gives short-term help and health checks. The team offers kind, respectful and dignified care. They help people:

  • Get the right healthcare
  • Register with a GP
  • Start long-term care

CAVHIS wants to make sure everyone can get help, no matter their situation.

  • General Practitioners (GPs).
  • Mental Health Practitioners.
  • Social worker.
  • British Red Cross Health Inclusion support service

  • Health Visitors.
 

🩺What is the Alternative Treatment Scheme (ATS)?

Some people cannot get help from a normal GP due to a past incident or negative experience. CAVHIS runs the ATS to give these people the care they need.
