Anwen Ward

The Breast Unit comprises of the Breast Centre Clinic and Anwen Ward. The nursing staff you will see work between both areas.

Anwen visiting times are 2pm-4pm and 6pm-8pm. We are a busy ward and in order to respect the privacy of all our patients and provide a calm and peaceful environment pre and post-operatively, we request that our visiting hours are respected. Please speak to the nurse in charge if you are unable to receive visits within these hours as the ward also has ‘protected mealtimes’. Please inform friends and relatives that flowers are not allowed on the ward so that they can wait until you are discharged home.

Before your admission you will probably be called for pre-assessment where your history and details will be taken, and any tests required will be performed or arranged. This is usually undertaken on the ward and can take up to 2 hours.

During your Stay

During your stay you will need:

  • toiletries,
  • towel,
  • nightwear- preferably pyjamas with front opening top,
  • underwear- a soft non-wired bra,
  • slippers and dressing gown.

We recommend that jewellery and any other valuable items be left at home, or sent home with relatives.

Going Home

Please ensure you have a supply of paracetamol ready for your discharge. Most patients are usually discharged the day after surgery, but sometimes the same day depending on the surgery. When you are ready to go home you will be given a letter for the District Nurse (if needed), dressings and an outpatient appointment. If you require a sick certificate for your employer, please inform the staff.

We aim to make your stay as comfortable as possible. If you are unsatisfied with any aspect of your care or the facilities provided, please bring this to the attention of the staff who will be pleased to help.
