Consultant Colorectal and Emergency General Surgeon
Lt Colonel Davies trained in medicine at the University of Wales College of Medicine, Cardiff, graduating in 1997. His post-graduate surgical training was undertaken in Surrey, London, Hampshire, and South Wales. He obtained specialist recognition in 2012 having undertaken specialist surgical training fellowships in advanced pelvic oncology in Swansea and in cytoreductive surgery in Basingstoke.
He was appointed to Cardiff in 2013 as a consultant general and colorectal surgeon as part of a placement from the Ministry of Defence, and continues to serve as a regular Army Officer. Clinically he practices at University Hospital Llandough and University Hospital of Wales where he undertakes both elective and emergency duties in both general and colorectal surgery. In addition to this he has served in military operational environments both at home and abroad.
His research involved the genetic interrogation of human colorectal carcinoma and the role of lymphangiogenesis in the development of secondary disease. Current research interests include quality outcomes following elective and emergency surgery and trauma management. He is responsible within University Hospital of Wales for the training of surgical trainees in emergency surgery and is the general surgery trauma Lead.
